Warp Drive Goal Reached!!!

KCCU achieved its Fall 2015 Warp Drive goal of $60,000. We received $59,977 in pledges and $1036.25 in vehicles from 310 members to total $61,013.25. This is a record for a fall fundraiser. In essence it stopped the bleeding, but we have not been released from the hospital.

I would like to address what this means for your public radio station. We have all heard of the impending budgetary crisis. Since our license-holder receives money from the state, there will be cuts. KCCU's budget will be reduced in some fashion.

Because we were successful in our fundraising efforts, programming cuts can be kept to a minimum in 2016. Once we have the final percentage in, we can be more specific. At present, we are contractually obligated to air the bulk of our programs through either June or September 2016. Based on the severity of cuts, certain programs may have to go away at that time.

The good news is, because we were successful, we can achieve our reduction without affecting any major programs such as ME, ATC or Classical Music.

My office is always open. Stop by, call me at 888-454-7800 or send an email to dcole@cameron.edu with your concerns, suggestions or comments.
