In June Jobs Numbers, Signs For Optimism

The job market improved in June, as employers added 288,000 workers to their payrolls and the unemployment rate fell to 6.1 percent. In another welcome development, the ranks of the long-term unemployed declined.

In Arlington, Wash., neighbors and businesses are raising money for the families of those affected by the mudslide in Oso, a part of that city.

Death Toll From Mudslide Increased To 27

Authorities on Tuesday raised the number of confirmed fatalities by three. They also said some of those on the list of the 22 people who are missing may be among eight bodies yet to be identified.
