Cameron University is now a Purple Heart University.
The Proclamation was read during a Veterans Day Ceremony on Friday November 10th.
Bruce Dwyer, Adjutant with Military Order of The Purple Heart Chapter 602 says this distinction brings attention to those who fought and are still fighting for our country.
“It’s going to raise awareness about the plight and sacrifice and the courage of all our past veterans and our current military that’s serving, they’re in harm's way, they’re defending our country either here or abroad against terrorism and we gotta keep them in mind.”
Dwyer says there’s a standard process they go through to recognize entities with Purple Heart Distinction.
“We go and talk to the university or whoever we want to make a Purple Heart entity and say this is an example of a proclamation, we’re going to exchange the proclamation, we’re going to give you a plaque and thanks honoring that and you’ll put up signs around campus, you can pick different designs or create them yourself or I’ll supply them.”
Altus, Lawton, Medicine Park, and Southwestern Hospital are several Purple Heart entities in Southwest Oklahoma.
