The top softball players across the Army made their way to Fort Sill to make the final rosters of the All Army Men’s and All Army Women’s Softball Teams.

On Thursday the women’s team received their gear.

Staff Sergeant Lora Schulze says this is her fourth year participating in the All Army Women’s Softball Team.

Schulze came from Joint Base Lewis McCord in Washington where it was 58 degrees, but she said they found a way to manage the triple digits here in Oklahoma.

“So, the way that we really manage it is earlier practices and just make sure everyone is hydrating, doing ice baths, and dunking our arms, all that sort of stuff and just trying to check up on each other make sure everyone is doing alright and no one’s feeling the heat exhaustion or anything.”

Sergeant Melina Wilkinson is 34 years old and has been playing Softball since she was 10 years old, says it’s a dream come true to be able to serve her country while doing what she loves.

“And I never knew this was even possible being in the Army, so to have this opportunity to come out here and play ball while representing the Army is just phenomenal.”

The All Army’s Women’s Softball team traveled to Oklahoma City Friday to play at USA Hall of Fame Stadium to compete against Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps for a gold medal and bragging rights.
