The Oklahoma Department of Veteran Affairs (ODVA) reported positive news this week, with the recent census report showing the Lawton location having its highest resident population since 2020.
ODVA Executive Director James Bynum shared that this accomplishment is the result of hard work and dedicated staff locally and statewide.
"Reaching this level of occupancy shows that we are meeting demand for long-term care while strengthening the system that supports our veterans," Bynum said. "This achievement belongs to the entire ODVA team. Their commitment, professionalism and belief in our mission made this possible."
The Lawton Veteran home is one of ODVA's flagship locations and serves one of the largest veteran populations in the state. More than 275,000 veterans and their families reside in Oklahoma, with nearly 1900 ODVA employees to serve their needs — 250 of those dedicated team members support the Lawton facility.
Located at 501 SE Flower Mound rd. on the east side of Lawton, the facility, completed in 2003, currently operates at 91.5% capacity with 183 veterans calling it "home."
Offering skilled nursing and intermediate care, along with specialized services for Alzheimer's and dementia patients, Lawton has one of the premiere veteran's facilities. It features a fishing pond with accessible dock, recreational amenities, a walking track and accessible transportation for group events and activities.
“ODVA remains focused on supporting veterans and their families,” Bynum said. “We encourage anyone with long‑term care needs or questions to reach out so we can assist.”
