On Community Focus this week, I sat down with Lawton Farmers Market Manager and Building Director, Cindy Nocton, to discuss their upcoming July 4th ceremony and special market event.
On Sat. July 4th from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Farmers Market in downtown Lawton, (77 SW 4th St.) their team is bringing our community a special ceremony to honor local veterans under the pavilion.
The Comanche Indian Veterans Association (CIVA) will do a flag ceremony to represent each branch of service, and the 145th Army Band (Oklahoma's "Governor's Own" state band) featuring members of the Oklahoma Army National Guard, will perform the songs dedicated to each branch at the presentation. The Steve Story Band from Cameron University Adjunct Professor, Steve Story will perform that morning along with native sign language interpreters helping out.
This ceremony will be FREE to the public and they invite everyone to come out and honor our local veterans (many of whom are vendors at the market) and enjoy this celebration in for America's 250th birthday and independence day.
The Farmers Market will have a delayed opening that morning, with their usual vendors and food trucks that will be on site ready to sell at 8:30 a.m., featuring all of the freshest produce, flowers, treats and handmade goods you love.
As always, the Farmers Market accepts SNAP and EBT with a special incentive for free produce, so be sure to stop in and make the most of your benefits by shopping local.
The Market is open to the public year round, only closing for a Christmas break. The facility is available for rent to those wanting to host events, from weddings to birthdays. Anyone interested in learning more should reach out to Ms. Nocton at 580-678-9472.
