This week I sat down with Mr. Bill Cunningham to discuss this weekend's upcoming Tour de Meers.
This annual event is 37 years strong, having occurred nearly every Memorial Weekend since 1989. This year the bike ride is Sat. May 23rd, starting at 7:30 a.m. with registration opening at 6 a.m.
Riders can also pre-register Friday, May 22nd at the Meers Volunteer Fire Station, which is where check-in will be Saturday morning. The ride starts and ends at the fire station, located at: 26362 State Hwy 115 Meers, Ok. 73507.
Riders can choose from multiple routes spanning 10, 22, 36, or 60 miles. Each route, including a couple of unpaved options are all outlined and available to view on their website, tourdemeers.org. There will be pitstops along each route with refreshments available, multiple volunteers will be assisting along each route to ensure riders are on track and well cared for.
Participants can also purchase raffle tickets for $5 each for a chance to win a big beautiful quilt handmade and donated by Peggy Coe (pictures are on the site). All proceeds from registration fees and raffle tickets will go to the Meers Volunteer Fire Department to help support their station and heroic efforts as they provide services to the Meers community and surrounding areas, when needed.
Registration after May 20th (early bird timeframe) will be $40 for single riders and $55 for tandem bikes and can be purchased the day of. Children under 10 can ride for free with a paid adult rider.
