Lawton, OK – Despite lower gas prices across the state, travel experts say fewer Oklahomans will be hitting the road and taking to the skies over the Thanksgiving holiday.
Chuck Mai of AAA Oklahoma says travel for Thanksgiving is expected to decrease about 1.4 percent nationwide from 41.6 million last year to 41 million this year.
Mai says the number of people flying over the Thanksgiving holidays is expected to decline 7.2 percent, from 4.9 million in 2007 to about 4.54 million this year.
But Mai says those traveling by car in Oklahoma will enjoy some of the cheapest gasoline in the nation. Oklahoma's statewide average for one gallon of regular unleaded gasoline on Wednesday was $1.67, second only to Missouri, which was about 10 cents cheaper.
