Black History Month 2025

Jason Poudrier

Cynthia Sosa interviews several community leaders about the 4th annual Black History Month event coming up on February 20th and 21st at the Albert Johnson Sr. Conference Center in Lawton.

The event includes the discussion panels; ‘Advancing Education for a Brighter Tomorrow’ and ‘Lawton’s Business Future: Growth, Innovation, & Opportunity’; a Soulful Story workshop by Joshua Harris-Till, cousin of Emmett Till (14-year-old African American youth, who was abducted and lynched in Mississippi in 1955); and a performance by violinists, Sons of Mystro, along with Lawton Public School students. Limited seating. Tickets available by calling (580) 355-3541.

Cynthia was born in Palatka, Florida and raised all over the world. She traveled to places like Germany, Austria, Hawaii, and the Panama Canal with her father and then her husband, both career army soldiers. Her family retired to the Lawton/Ft. Sill community in March 2005 and has been in the area over 15 years.
