Bush and Deevers to face off for Senate District 32 seat

Voters in Southwest Oklahoma’s Comanche County took the first step toward sending a new Senator to the State Capitol on Tuesday.

Dusty Deevers won a tight GOP primary, which means he's got the inside track to claim a senate seat vacated by John Michael Montgomery this year. Deevers secured the win with 1,416 votes, while second place finisher Dr. Jean Hausheer tallied 1,117 votes.

Deevers is a local pastor with Grace Reformed Baptist Church of Elgin and operates Deevers Properties. He ran on a campaign that touted abolishing abortion and his endorsement from the state’s second amendment association.

His opponent will be local businessman and former OU football star Democrat Larry Bush, who previously lost statehouse races in 2016 and 2018, but easily secured his party’s nomination with almost three-quarters of votes cast.

Twice as many Republicans voted in the primary than Democrats and independents combined.

Deevers and Bush will now face off in December for the general election.
