Oklahoma Congressman inducted into National Service Hall of Fame

KPHILL

Oklahoma Congressman Tom Cole was recently honored by being inducted into the National Service Hall of Fame for his long standing support of AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps Seniors.

Congressman Cole said receiving this award was very unexpected, and while he’s honored, he says the real heroes are AmeriCrops members.

“Again, very proud and humbled to have received an award like that, but the real heroes are the young men and women, and it’s not always young sometimes it’s seniors, we have senior service corps and what have you, but it’s usually young men and women, they take out from their lives and interrupt their education or their career to go help people.”

Every year about 3,500 members of AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps Seniors serve in Oklahoma, responding to the state’s most immediate and critical needs.
