Austin, TX – A campaign watchdog group wants a criminal investigation of GOP Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst over his failure to disclose his vast wealth.
Texans for Public Justice filed a complaint today with Travis County prosecutors.
The complaint claims Dewhurst is in violation of state law requiring politicians to disclose personal financial statements.
Dewhurst did not immediately respond to a call by The Associated Press, but has said he believes his disclosures adhere to both the spirit and the letter of the law.
Travis County Attorney David Escamilla declined comment until he'd seen the complaint.
The complaint follows an AP report about the lack of transparency in Dewhurst's personal financial statements.
Dewhurst, who was elected lieutenant governor in 2002, presides over the Texas Senate and holds one of the most powerful jobs in state government.
