Texas Lawmaker Urges Congress to Pass Emergency Ike Aid

Washington, D.C. – Texas Democrat Nick Lampson is asking congressional leaders to provide emergency funding to bring relief to victims of Hurricane Ike.

Lampson's southeast Texas district includes part of Galveston County, which was hit hard when Ike roared ashore early Saturday.

He says Congress needs to pass a legislative package that would immediately bring money to southeast Texas so local communities don't have to pay for most of the recovery costs.

Lampson is also calling on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Nevada Sen. Harry Reid to keep Congress in session until it approves the aid and President Bush signs the legislation into law.
