Many Area Post Offices Closing Before Midnight April 15

Lawton, Ok. – The man in charge of the Marlow Post Office, Rodney Brooks, says his facility on Main Street will be open for those people who want to file last minute tax returns April 15. The window there will close at 10 p.m.
Brooks notes that the U.S. Postal Service is in the same position as other businesses throughout the nation in trying to cut costs where possible and that many local post offices had made the decision to not stay open to accomadate the last minute filers April 15 as has been the tradition in many locales in recent years. He says that to better serve his community and other people, the Marlow facility will offer a variety of services at its window to meet their needs April 15 till 10 p.m.
The Duncan Post Office will keep its window open until 8 p.m. tonight to serve customers seeking the April 15 postmark.
According to Lawton Post Master Gary Chambers, a decline in last minute filing attributed to many filing taxes electronically during the past couple of years, was figured into the decision in Lawton to provide regular weekday service on April 15. Stamps are available for purchase from machine in the downtown office lobby and normal final pickup times will be observed at the outside and inside mail drops.
