Ft. Sill Training Continues

Lawton, Ok. – Lawton Mayor Cecil Powell has called the firing of artillery and the resulting booms from Ft. Sill "the sounds of freedom." And residents have been continuing to hear the periodic booms as the post continues its training mission, according to the Ft. Sill Public Affairs Office.
A spokesman with the office notes that troops have been continuing to depart for their missions of deployment as transporation can be arranged for them and their equipment. More than 3,800 Ft. Sill soliders have received deployment orders, and some National Guard and Reserve soldiers called to active duty also have been leaving from the post for their missions.
The visitors coming on post were still required to show picture identification at the gate and motorists were advised to be prepared for the possible inspection of vehicles. Arriving early at the gate for any appointments on post is recommended.
