Convicted Child Killer Set To Die in Texas

Dallas, TX – DCondemned Texas prisoner Alvin Kelly says he's at peace with his likely execution tonight.

That's even though he insists he's innocent of a shooting rampage that left three members of an East Texas family dead, including a 22-month-old boy.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Kelly says ``As I stand before God, I'm innocent of this case.'' But he also says, ``I'm not saying this to save my life. My life is for God.''

The 57-year-old former Tyler truck repair shop owner would be the 10th Texas prisoner executed this year in the nation's busiest capital punishment state. He's among a dozen condemned inmates scheduled to die over the next six weeks, including another set for lethal injection on Thursday.

Kelly already was serving a 30-year prison term for murder when he was convicted of killing 22-month-old Devin Morgan, the son of Jerry and Brenda Morgan. Relatives found the bodies of the child and his parents at their Gregg County home in 1984.
