Lawtonian serving with American Red Cross in Spain

A Lawton woman is serving at Naval Station Rota with the American Red Cross.

Shelby Hayes is the regional program specialist and station manager.

While she was born in Temple, Texas she graduated from Lawton High School and still considers Lawton her hometown.

Hayes says she served several years in the United States Navy and when she was done with her service, she still wanted to serve her country which is why she chose the American Red Cross

“I first heard about the American Red Cross when I was actually in the military and I myself got my first Red Cross message and after getting out of the navy it was something that not only I was recommended to, but it was an organization that had meant a lot to me because of that Red Cross message and the opportunity to continue my career with the military while living overseas as well as having the opportunity to go out on multiple deployments, being directly apart of our military communities and their family is the part that I just love most about our job and a part of big reason why I got into this program.”

Hayes encourages anyone interested to check out opportunities with the American Red Cross.

“I would just recommend them to check out American Red Cross | Help Those Affected by Disasters or their local Red Cross Station in Lawton as well as Fort Sill, we have our Hero Care Center.”
