Norman Firefighter dies in rock climbing accident on Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge

The Norman Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of their own.

Levi Wilkins passed away over the weekend while rock climbing at the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge.

Over the weekend, rescue workers responded to a report of a climber who had suffered a fall near the Narrows Trail. They found that Wilkins had died at the scene.

Wilkins’ wife Emily described him as “the most incredible husband, father, son, brother & friend.”

Norman Fire Chief Travis King says Wilkins QUOTE “lived with fervor and joy and did everything in his power to live his adventure.”

King says the department is working on plans to honor Wilkins within the department, including a memorial to recognize his lasting impact. Wilkins had previously been diagnosed with Stage 4 Adrenal Cancer in 2019 and in 2020, but he had beaten it.
