An Opioid Overdose and Prevention and Harm Reduction Training took place in Lawton on Wednesday.
Senior Field Representative for Harm Reduction Services Jason Hall led the training and had several goals.
“I want to help the community identify the latest overdose epidemic trends, describe some harm reduction and its role in reducing drug overdoses, teach community members how to administer Narcan, utilize Fentanyl test strips, and list some harm reduction supply access points.”
Hall explains what Narcan is and how it works to save lives.
“So, Narcan is an opioid antagonist. So what it does is, when it’s administered to someone that’s experiencing an opioid overdose, it temporarily knocks those opioids off the opioid receptors, to temporarily reverse an opioid overdose, until emergency services can respond.”
Hall says he hopes people walk away from his training being aware of the signs of an opioid overdose and how to respond appropriately.
