Pools and other water recreational facilities are opening ahead of the Memorial Day Weekend.

Sarah Rucker, Head Rec Aid at Lake Elmer Thomas Recreation Area has some tips.

“First of all, people need to understand their environment and they need to go prepared for their environment. So, if they are going to the lake, they need to make sure that they dress appropriately, they need to make sure that they have sunscreen, that they take enough water for the day. A lot of times people get to the lake and they didn’t prepare, so they end up dehydrated or they end up sunburned. So, those are things you can do before you get to the lake or any other water environment to make sure that you have a good experience once you get there.”

Rucker shares one of the biggest mistakes adults make when celebrating the holidays.

“Alcohol causes people to become dehydrated but it also impairs your judgement and sometimes you make foolish decisions.” (8) BUTT TO “We want people to come and enjoy the lake on Memorial Day weekend, but we want them to come prepared to spend the day with plenty of sunscreen and plenty of water.”
